Good morning everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who joined us for the 4th Annual Heroes Highway Ride. I believe that it was a unequivocal success, we welcomed about 2500 to 3000 bikes to CF Base Trenton for a wonderful assembly thanks largely to the efforts of the men and women who serve at 8 Wing. It was an honour and a pleasure to work hand in hand with these great Canadians with members of every unit represented, as well as members of the United States military, who are at 8 Wing for special co-operative training with Canadian Forces, we also had a special visit by the Dragoons who came in support of our Grand Marshall, Darlene Cushman, who's son served as a member of of the Dragoon's when his life was taken by an IED June 11, 2007. It was an honour to ride under of Lancers raised as we departed, a show of respect for our Grand Marshall and our riders. O.P.P. and Toronto Police Services did an outstanding job of escorting our ride along the Highway of Heroes and into Toronto. It came off with seamless professionalism and made our travel safe as we rode into the busiest metropolitan centre in Canada. When we finally arrived at the Sound Academy on Polson Pier we were welcomed by hundreds of onlookers, as well as members of the Canadian Forces from the Toronto area Armouries as we rode in. The program at the Sound Academy was masterfully coordinated by Zeke Myers and Andi Roth who both showed me how to flow a program and keep our audience engaged. The Sound Academy staff did an outstanding job of of hosting our participants. As always, great support by Q107 and John Derringer and his morning crew, Ryan Parker and Johnny Garbot. Ryan provided MC services and Johnny kept the tunes going as we arrived. Great job! During our thanks to the military, hosted by Micael Blais of the Canadian Veterans Advocacy and Trapper Cane of the Canadian Army Veterans (CAV) Riding Club, a number of outstanding Canadians were presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals World War 2 CAV Veterans, Sam Magee a Vet of the Devil's Brigade, and Tex Hill another WW2 Vet as well as our CAV National Padre Don Chisholm, CAV CoFounder 'Doc' Lebrun and an 8 year Old CAV Heroe-Dakota Allen and I was surprised when they called me forward and presented me with one of these beautiful medals for which I am deeply honour and humbly accepted. I took the opportunity to announce the we have invited Trapper Cane and the the Canadian Army Veterans (CAV) Motorcycle Club, a club he co-founded, to be the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally's partner club. But I would remiss if I didn't thank all of my sponsors, Jon Burman and all his staff at Classy Chassis & Cycle for believing in me and their continued support of our ride. Jon was gracious enough to provide Belt Drive Betty of the Busted Knuckles Chronicles a beautiful H-D Ultra Classic Standard. Dan Nadeau of Mackie Harley-Davidson who provided a bike for a Bert Meeker so that he might join us in the HHR but more importantly helped out by taking care of one of our U.S. guests from the M25 as he had a stator crap out on his bike. Dan and Don pushed him through, and got him up and running so that he can ride home to South Carolina instead of hauling it all the way back. Top marks to Dan, Don and the rest of the staff at Mackie's. I would also like to thank all the Trenton area Tim Hortons for the coffee for our riders at CFB Trenton and Sophie at Tim Hortons for providing gift mugs and Tim's card for our volunteers. Other notable sponsors are Parts Canada, Drag Specialities, Laura Lang thank you for believing and your support. The Toronto Sun as they have been part of the HHR since we began, Jacox and Davies Harley Davidson thank you, Paul, Doug and Victory Canada thank you for proving several bikes for visiting VIP's, they all raved about their Victory Motorcycles. Nick at Getwrapped.ca, they did an awesome job of wrapping my Torrent and it looked impressive leading the ride along the Highway of Heroes. New sponsor, OLG and media partner CP24. To all the volunteers who without their help and commitment this would never run as smoothly as it does, a heart felt, thank you. To Graeme Hume, Co-director of the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally Association, outstanding job my friend. Your tireless work and dedication shows in everything we see all day at the HHR, from the assembly to the rally and all points in-between your work can be seen. Finally I would like to thank my family for their support, without their support none of this would be possible. It's through their support and their encouragement and their sacrifice that I am able to devote the countless hours to this endeavour. To my wife Anne, you are my hero, as you watch me go out and always have my back, your support has never wavered and I love you for that, Thank you so much for being you, I love you. |

Co-Director, Graeme Hume and I are extremely proud and honoured to announce that Last Year's Grand Marshall, Darlene Cushman has accepted our invitation to join the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally family as our Fallen Heroes Family Liaison. As a Silver Cross mother of Fallen Trooper Darryl Caswell, Darlene Cushman will work hand in hand with family members of our Fallen Heroes taking part in the HHR&R. Darlene's warm smile and infectious laugh, not to forget her first hand experience as Grand Marshall last year brings a unique perspective to both our efforts for the families, as well as, her ability to speak to family members about the HHR and their participation in it. On behalf of Graeme and myself, please join us in welcoming Darlene Cushman. |
